How do I upgrade the iLO3 firmware on my HP ProLiant DL360 G7?

Upgrading the iLO3 firmware on your HP Proliant DL360 G7 server can provide you with useful updates that provide additional features. The version that shipped with servers we used was missing the “Drives” tab which displayed the model number and the status of the physical drives.

By upgrading to the latest revision we gained access to the Drives tab so we can check the health via the iLO3.

To upgrade the firmware of your iLO3 on a HP Proliant DL360 G7, perform the following steps:

1. www.hp.com/support/ilo3
2. Find the appropriate version (1.26 as of this article) and download it
3. Confirm the md5sum is correct and execute: sh CP015458.scexe –unpack=directory.

Ex. sh CP015458.scexe –unpack=. or sh CP015458.scexe –unpack=/tmp/ilo3

4. Once the files have been unpacked, go to the IP or address of your iLO3 card via a browser.
5. Click on Administration –> iLO Firmware
6. In the File dialog box, click Browse and find the path to the files you extracted in step 3. You want to choose the .bin file (ilo3_126.bin or similar).
7. Click Upload and await the updates.
8. It will check to see if the file is valid. If so it will continue to apply the update and restart the iLO3 card.
9. If everything is successful in about 3-5 minutes you will have your iLO3 back online with the latest version of firmware.
