How do I convert a CD or DVD to .iso format in Mac OS X?

Converting a CD or DVD to .iso format is pretty simple using Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app) which comes with Mac OS X.

To convert the CD or DVD to .iso format, perform the following steps:

1. Open Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app)

2. Choose Images –> New –> Image –> Image From Device

or

Click the New Image icon in the top center of the app.

3. The next screen will prompt you to choose the name of the image. Enter in the name of the file and where you want to store it.

4. From the Image Format drop down menu choose DVD/CD master and click Save.

5. After the process has completed, the resulting file will have a .cdr extension. Rename the file .iso and you should now have a mountable .iso file that you can use.
